Firefighter Video Training

Firefighter Video Training
DVD Program

                                  Our Training Philosophy

Working Fire Training is all about the training and wants it to be utilized. We encourage these programs to be presented in regular, instructor-led training sessions, or some other kind of instruction (like an online learning web portal, which we are currently developing) where participation is mandatory and performance is graded.  If your department doesn't intend to use it that way, as much as we'd like to have you as a subscriber, save your money as you'll probably end up cancelling due to non-use. Unless your members are highly self-motivated, departments that subscribe and just let the members watch training at their leisure, we find that in most cases, the programs don't get watched.

Working Fire Training is a great way to go to school on other department's incidents that you'll see each month. No department gets enough fire/emergency runs (aside from EMS) and observing other departments' incidents helps keeps your members' heads in the game. Different departments approach incidents differently (SOGs vary widely; you may even disagree with how others do it, and that's okay, too) but the point is, it gets your people discussing procedure, technique, and tactics which can reinforce your own SOGs. Our feeling is, the more members are thinking about how they approach what they do, the better prepared they'll be on the fireground. Responders who are more aware tend to come home alive. That's the name of the game.

Here's what you get with the Working Fire Training
Firefighter Video Training DVD Program!

Each program is delivered on DVD and/or an online version of the program. Each program presents 5-6 video lessons divided into specific areas: Fireline, Hands-On, Fire Medics, and Evolutions 2000.

Each lesson, when viewed and then reinforced with the training guides/materials (see below) in PowerPoint and .PDF formats, quizzes, and discusion questions which are also on the DVD or online, is worth 0.5 contact hours. An entire Working Fire Training program is worth 2.5 contact hours. Some extended lessons and mini-courses are worth additional contact hours.

Fireline
"Fireline" features live firefighter video training through actual incidents and analysis interviews with lessons learned with the responders who answered the call:

  • first-in crews
  • battalion chiefs
  • fire chiefs, etc.

These incidents include fires, heavy rescues, vehicle extrication, haz-mat -- any emergency response could be covered. View a Fireline sample!

Hands-On
"Hands-On" demonstrates practical firefighter video training with secific training evolutions on a particular task or exercise. These may include classroom sessons as well as the subsequent field evolutions. Again, anything that can be trained on may be presented in Hands-On. Sometimes Hands-On is presented as a multi-part series over several months. Or we might feature an expanded single segment on a program instead of two shorter ones. All training is IFSTA- and NFPA-based. View a Hands-On sample!

Fire Medics
"Fire Medics" is firefighter video training designed for the firefighter/paramedic or EMT. Fire Medics covers anything that might be important to EMS or medical responses in general. These segments could be task-specific medical training similar to "Hands-On" or actual medical incidents gathered during ride-alongs with EMS crews, similar to "Fireline." View a Fire Medics sample!

"Fire Medics" lessons are approved for continuing paramedics/EMT education if approved by your department or agency's medical director and/or viewed in the presence of a licensed paramedic. "Fire Medics" trainers are all properly certified.

Evolutions 2000
"Evolutions 2000" is our program area for related areas of concern to firefighters. Featured every month in "Evolutions 2000" is "Kramer vs. Kramer," an opportunity for members of Working Fire subscribing departments to earn Continuing Education credits toward their Associates or Bachelors degree at the University of Cincinnati by watching Working Fire Training each month. View a sample of Kramer vs. Kramer!

"Evolutions 2000" periodically features other stories of interest such as what volunteer departments do to increase recruitment, awards given to firefighters, community promotions, and more.
